Building a Competitive Community

I want to spark a competitive shift here in Crystal Lake. As small as it may be, it's a chance to begin building another scene in IL. Being close to Northbrook as well, it could become something amazing in the future.

But since building a scene is a long, arduous process, I thought it would be appropriate to make a thread regarding the matter first-hand. This should be for references and our own ideals.

Conway is both intrigued and enraged by this notion. Continue as scheduled.

Bump. Updated the OP, and I've talked to some people as well. I think I was probably putting it on too quickly to my friend, so I didn't make much of an impression. I haven't been able to show him much tourney footage. I need some ideas on what to do for him, because I think I'm just going in one ear and coming out the other with it right now. Also, school prevents smashfests for me. I need an easier way to do this... a quicker one.

As for Melee, Oz has already seen the competitive scene. He seems into it, so I could probably try to get him further along with the other Melee players. He has a lot more smashfests than I even have time for. I really wish I could ask for his help on this, but he's barely in the scene himself, and he wouldn't be good for the Brawl players, which is my main focus.

Give me your ideas, guys. What should I do? Remember, this stuff is usually taking place during school. I'm guessing they're also distracted from what I'm saying. I need a really good way to get them interested. And I don't even know how long it'll be before the club starts up. I'm so anxious...

Umm, I honestly don't know. Play it and have fun with it where they can see. People always wanna play a game that looks fun. Give them a Ganon-challenge or something. A dollar to whoever can beat your Ganon.

Have a weekly meeting or something where you can all get together and discuss vitally important combat techniques for Brawl. Then you can also plan little tourneys and stuff to get them even more into it.

I think that playing their games with them a little could always help, or getting them more familiar with the game through time battle FFAs, possibly with items.
